How to make a free concrete vibrator from a car shock absorber
When pouring concrete structures, you can use a homemade deep vibrator, converted from an old car shock absorber, to compact the solution. It works no worse than a purchased tool, and it costs nothing, minus a pair of welding electrodes. All materials for it can be found on scrap metal.
The protective casing is removed from the shock absorber and the eyelet is cut off strictly in a circle so as not to damage the inner flask. Then the rod is removed.
2 pieces of rod are welded to the rod, offset to one side. A continuous seam is not needed, it is enough to grab them in a couple of places. Then you need to place the rod back into the inner flask. If the welded rods get in the way, they need to be sharpened.
The modified rod with the inner bulb is inserted into the shock absorber body and the sawed-off eye with the cover is welded back.Next, the shock absorber body is cleaned so that it can be painted, and in the future it will be easier to wash off the concrete after use.
The vibrator is almost ready, all that remains is to make an adapter for the drill. For this, a standard shock absorber casing is used. A piece of 200-250 mm is cut from it. At the edges of the workpiece, 2 holes are drilled for the eyes of the clamps. Next, using a grinder, an adapter is cut out as in the photo.
The eyes of the clamps on the adapter are bent and bolts are inserted into them. Next, it is first clamped onto the drill body at the location where the removable handle is installed, then tightened onto the vibrator. In this case, the rod must be installed in the chuck and pressed with a key.
It is advisable to paint the vibrator and adapter before use if you plan to use it more than a couple of times. The resulting device, due to the uneven weighting of the rod, vibrates very strongly when the drill is turned on. This allows the concrete to be compacted when the vibrator is immersed, driving it into small cavities where it does not fall by gravity.
The device can be used not only as a submersible vibrator, but also against a table to compact solutions in molds. It turns out like a vibrating table on which it is possible to make paving slabs, reinforced concrete pillars, etc.
What you will need:
- broken car shock absorber;
- rod 6-8 mm;
- bolts with nuts M8 – 2 pcs.
