How to install a chuck on an emery shaft without a lathe
If you install a clamping chuck on the emery shaft, the machine will be able to work with attachments for sandpaper with Velcro. This will allow you to sharpen knives, scissors and other tools very efficiently. The problem is that the threads on the emery shaft are different from those used on the cartridge. You can solve this problem in the following way.
What you will need:
- drill chuck;
- SDS+ adapter for a threaded chuck on a hammer drill;
- extended nut for the emery shaft.
The process of installing a cartridge on emery
An elongated nut is selected to secure it to the emery shaft.
A cut “SDS+” adapter is welded into it, and the cartridge is screwed onto it.
When welding, it is important to maintain alignment, so it would be optimal to first attach the nut to the shaft, and then weld the adapter, constantly monitoring the runout.
This way it will be minimal.
The presence of a chuck on the machine will allow you to use sandpaper with Velcro, as well as install a drill and various cutters. If you don't have a drill, this may be necessary.
