How to make a knife from a soldering iron for cutting acrylic, plexiglass, plastic, PVC and foam

If you need to make complex cuttings of plexiglass, plastic or sheet acrylic, it is very convenient to use a hot cutter. It passes through these materials like clockwork. You can make such a device in literally 5 minutes.

The process of making a cutter from a soldering iron

The standard tip of the soldering iron must be removed. Instead, you need to install an M5 bolt sawn lengthwise from the side of the head to a depth of 10-15 mm.

It is important to make a thin cut, so it is better to use a hand jigsaw for this.

A broken segment from the mounting knife blade is inserted into the bolt inserted into the soldering iron. Then the cutter is tightened with screws.



Now, when the soldering iron heats up, the blade will very quickly and accurately cut through the plastic without leaving wide beads of melt, as happens when using a hot wire.





Another advantage of such a homemade product is that after work the standard tip returns to its place, and the soldering iron can again be used for its main purpose.
