Magnetic plate from microwave transformers
On drilling and milling machines, workpieces are fixed in a vice. It's reliable, but not entirely convenient. It's easier to use an electromagnet. It allows you to instantly fix workpieces at any point on the platform, accurately positioning them under the working equipment. You can make such an electromagnet with your own hands.
Materials:
- Transformers with microwave oven – 3 pcs.;
- sheet steel – 2 mm;
- copper wires;
- epoxy resin;
- fiber fiber.
Electromagnetic platform manufacturing process
For three transformers from a microwave oven, it is necessary to cut the welding core and carefully knock out the windings so as not to damage them. The cut is made at the junction of the mounting flange and the W-shaped plates.
Since the core consists of plates that fall apart without a flange, it needs to be strengthened. To do this, several welding seams are laid along it. It is necessary to boil the plates and then clean the protruding part of the seams.
A platform box is welded from sheet steel into which the transformer cores will fit. They need to be drilled and screwed from the bottom with countersunk screws. Thermal paste must be applied between the cores and the wall of the box.Additionally, the cores should be boiled from the inside of the box.
A hole is drilled in the side of the box to enter the power cable.
Primary coils (made of thick wire) are installed back onto the cores.
Wires are soldered to the coil contacts. The main power cable is inserted into the hole in the box. Coils are connected to it in parallel. The contacts need to be insulated, then filled with epoxy resin. For reliability, it is reinforced with fiber fiber.
After the resin has dried, the surface is sanded to obtain a perfectly flat plane.
Now the electromagnetic cooker can be used for its intended purpose.
You just need to connect a powerful 12 V power source to it. Any metal object will be tightly attracted to it until the power is turned off.
