How to make a 2 in 1 grinding and sharpening attachment for a drilling machine from a grinder gearbox

If you have a drilling machine, but no sharpening machine, then you can make this attachment. It allows you to obtain a drum and disk sharpener using a drive from a drilling machine. This is a very practical solution that is inexpensive to manufacture.

Materials:

  • Gearbox from an angle grinder;
  • Chipboard or plywood;
  • double threaded furniture pin M10 – 5 pcs.;
  • washers, nuts M10;
  • two-component glue;
  • sandpaper.

The manufacturing process of the sharpening attachment

The main working unit of the attachment is the gearbox from a burnt-out angle grinder along with the anchor. To do this, they are removed from a broken angle grinder. Next, you need to make a four-wall box of the attachment from scraps of chipboard or plywood, starting from the size of the drilling table.

2 eye posts are made from the same material. They are screwed to the gearbox, after which it is secured to the box with self-tapping screws. To screw in the fastener, one of its walls will need to be temporarily removed.

On the opposite side of the gearbox, furniture pins are installed on the sole.They are positioned so as to screw the box to the drilling table through its standard grooves.

A disc is cut out of chipboard or plywood, which will later be used as a grinding disc. A clamping nut from an angle grinder is screwed into its center. The disk will need to be drilled so that when screwing on the gearbox spindle does not rest.

The grooves on the armature core of the angle grinder should be cleaned. Then sandpaper is wrapped around it. Its edge needs to be folded up and inserted into the groove. After that, they are split apart with a self-tapping screw.

The attachment is installed on the drilling machine and screwed to its table using pins. The armature shaft is clamped in the drill chuck. The made disk is screwed onto the spindle. After starting the machine, the disc must be sharpened to remove runout.

A U-shaped thrust table is made from slats or scraps of board. It is screwed to the frame using similar pins that were used on its bottom.

To adjust the position of the table, you need to mill an arc-shaped groove on its side surface, and through it make another fixation point to the box. This is done with a similar hairpin.

Sandpaper is glued to the disk using two-component glue and cut out.

The result is an attachment that can be used to grind and sharpen almost anything.
