How to make a core drill stop for straight drilling of holes in glass or ceramics
Sometimes when drilling, the core drill is difficult to fix in the right place. By making a simple but reliable stop from available materials, you can forget about this problem. Any adult with basic plumbing skills can handle the work of making it.
Will need
Materials:- steel strip;
- bolts and washers;
- rolling bearings;
- universal glue;
- rubberized fabric or rubber.
The process of making a stop for a core drill when drilling
At a given distance from one end of the steel strip, we mark, core and drill two holes, placing them across the strip.
Between the holes, we make a corner notch with the apex directed into the body of the material, cut off the corners of the steel strip and round off the sharp edges.Use a hand file to smooth the edges.
We make threads in the holes with a tap.
We place washers and rolling bearings on them and secure them with bolts, screwing them into threaded holes in the steel strip. Moreover, the outer rings of the bearings must rotate freely.
We cut off the part of the strip with the fixed bearings. We grind the ends of the bolts on the back side of the strip with a grinder to the level of its surface.
Lubricate the side of the strip opposite the bearings with universal glue and glue on a rubberized non-slip material (bicycle marque).
After the glue has hardened, we cut off the material protruding beyond the edges of the strip with scissors, and our homemade product is ready for use.
To do this, we install it in the place where the material is drilled with a core drill, rest the bearings against the tool, lightly press the stop against the material being processed and calmly drill a hole, without fear that the core drill will slip to the side.
