How to significantly increase ventilation draft in a garage or cellar naturally without a fan

Many people install fans in their exhaust ventilation systems. This provides effective forced air outflow, but is accompanied by corresponding noise and energy consumption. In fact, you can improve the performance of your hood in a more practical way by using an H-shaped deflector. This device, installed in the ventilation duct, creates the Venturi effect, thereby greatly increasing the air outflow. By assembling a similar device, you can get ventilation with literally turbo thrust. This performance will come in handy for a garage, workshop, damp basement or cellar.

Materials:

  • Sewer plastic pipe 110 mm - 2-3 m;
  • plastic tees 110 mm – 3 pcs.

The process of making a deflector to increase natural draft in the ventilation system

To assemble the deflector, you need to connect together 3 plastic tees 110 mm. The central one is located horizontally, and the remaining 2 tees are connected to it from the sides with their side outlets.The first one is put on as usual, and the second one is connected from the socket side through a piece of pipe.

The finished deflector must be connected to the outlet of the ventilation duct, and as high as possible.

If this is a garage, then a ventilation hole is made in its ceiling. A pipe 2-3 m high with a deflector installed on top is vertically fixed into it.

Exhaust ventilation will simply change after the upgrade. Such a deflector in a garage with a pipe on the roof only 2 m high not only draws in smoke and odors, it literally sucks in debris. The rod easily grabs and throws large pieces of foam from the pipe in moments. So a deflector made from sewer tees is a complete replacement for a powerful fan.

    Thanks for the idea. The decisive factor here is the height, the difference. Deflector - stability, regardless of wind direction (in my opinion). And in Kamchatka this is due to poor ventilation of the hills covered with forest.

    How can you see the sky through a deflector?

    I made one for the garage, it worked well, but as soon as it got hot outside it started working the other way around, i.e. draw air from the street

    If you stole stretch film at work and have time, then it’s a great idea.
