How to make fireproof putty. The simplest composition

Sometimes you need to repair a burnt-out exhaust manifold or muffler, seal cracks in a stove or boiler, insulate wires or contacts in an electric stove, etc. All this work can be done with the simplest putty in composition without calculating proportions or other additives.

Will need

Materials and tools:

  • asbestos fiber (cardboard or cord);
  • liquid glass (stationery glue);
  • construction grater-plane;
  • container for mixing components;
  • gas burner, etc.

The process of making heat-resistant putty with your own hands

We crush the asbestos with a construction float or just with our hands.

Place the required amount of this component in a shallow dish, for example, a plate, and pour liquid glass on top.

Mix the two-component mixture thoroughly with hands wearing rubber gloves until a homogeneous mass of the required concentration is obtained and has sufficient stickiness (adhesion).

When mixing these components, all that is important is the minimum amount of adhesive required to wet a given mass of asbestos. Excess glue will only affect the curing time of the mix, because...moisture will evaporate when drying and using the putty.

The hardened mass easily withstands the flame of a gas burner, does not conduct heat and has good adhesion even to the treated metal surface.

    An excellent heat-resistant adhesive is obtained by mixing ash with silicate glue; it has good adhesion to glass and metal.
