How to make a removable attachment for a drill that will turn it into a router for cutting any wooden circles
The price of a manual router starts from several thousand rubles and its purchase will be quite burdensome for the family budget, especially if it is used occasionally. If necessary, you can easily and at a minimum cost convert an inexpensive household drill into a router. Moreover, any adult can cope with such work.
Will need
Materials:
- channel section;
- a piece of round pipe;
- 2 nuts and a bolt;
- pin with ring stop and lock;
- extended nut and bushing;
- drill.
Tools: ruler and marker, drilling machine, grinder, bench vice, welding machine.
The process of converting a drill into a router using a simple tool
In the center of the channel jumper we mark two points at a short distance from the ends and drill holes. We cut a strip of metal between them to form a slot with a width equal to the diameters of the holes.
Having departed the required distance from one end of the piece of pipe, draw a circle along its outer surface. From the other end we draw two generatrices to the marked circle, placing them below the center of the pipe section.
Use a grinder to cut out a fragment limited by the marking lines. We cut the remaining cylindrical belt along the plane of symmetry of the part obtained from a piece of pipe.
Symmetrically to the cut and in the center of the belt, we weld two nuts, having previously screwed them onto an auxiliary bolt, which ensures the alignment of the nuts and protects their threads from metal splashes generated during welding. We screw the permanent bolt into the nuts.
We install the leg of the part from a piece of pipe with welded nuts and a bolt on one end of the channel with the nuts facing outward and in this position we weld it between its shelves.
Insert a pin with an annular stop and lock into the slot of the channel jumper from the outside. We put a bushing on the stud and screw on the extended nut. Moreover, when the nut is not tightened, the locking pin can be moved along the slot.
We insert the power belt of the drill body into the clamp ring and tighten the coupling bolt. We install and secure a finger cutter into the collet clamp of the drill chuck.
We drill a hole in the board for the clamp, which is pre-set to the desired size and tightened with an extended nut.
We insert the clamp into the hole, turn on the drill and first make a small through arc with a cutter. Then, moving the drill in a circle around the clamp, we cut out a circle of the required diameter. By changing the position of the latch on the elongated slot in the channel, you can cut circles of different diameters.
