How to make a modern garden lamp for pennies from PVC pipe
Buying outdoor garden lamps in a store or market will cost a pretty penny, and the design may not be suitable or you may not like it. Quite modern design lamps can be made from leftover plastic pipes and sheets, and this does not require special knowledge or professional skills.
Will need
Materials:
- PVC pipe with a diameter of 7.6 cm and a length of 20 cm;
- PVC sheets 28×28 cm and 15×15 cm;
- PVC ring with a diameter of 7.6 cm and a width of 2 cm;
- Super glue;
- 2 PVC plates 9×3.5 cm;
- electric cartridge, two-core wire and LED light bulb;
- PVC pipe with a diameter of 3.2 cm and a length of 60 cm;
- transparent plastic film 30×18 cm;
- spray paint in golden and black colors, etc.
Tools: sandpaper, a sheet of paper as a template, a grinder, a knife, a Dremel, a jigsaw, a gas stove and a cauldron with a round bottom, scissors, a heat gun, etc.
The manufacturing process of a modern garden lamp made of plastic
Remove the gloss from a PVC pipe with a diameter of 7.6 cm and a length of 20 cm using sandpaper.We cover the pipe with a template - a sheet of paper of the required size with the contours of the slots in the pipe and secure it with tape.
Based on the template attached to the pipe, use a grinder to cut out 4 longitudinal preliminary slits, remove the template and use a knife to remove unnecessary fragments. We also round the upper part of the slots using a Dremel according to the template. Using a knife and sandpaper, remove burrs and irregularities.
From a PVC sheet 28x28 cm, cut out 4 circles with a diameter of 12 cm. Inside the circles, draw circles with a diameter of 9 cm using a compass and cut out rings with an outer diameter of 12 cm and an inner diameter of 9 cm using a jigsaw.
From a 15x15 cm PVC sheet, periodically heating it over the flame of a gas stove burner, we form a spherical surface using a cauldron with a round bottom. Using the ring as a template, use scissors to cut out a dome-shaped circle with a diameter of 12 cm from a sheet with a convex surface.
We insert a split ring into the base of the pipe with the slots and fasten the joint with an overlay using superglue. From two PVC plates 9x3.5 cm we assemble a cross according to the drawing, which we insert into the ring and secure with glue.
For further work, we will prepare a PVC pipe with a diameter of 3.2 cm and a length of 60 cm, making mutually perpendicular slots at its end.
Next, we bend a transparent plastic film 30x18 cm into a cylinder and place it in a plastic pipe with slots, making several holes in it with a heat gun.
We assemble the resulting parts according to the intended design using superglue. We paint the pipe and ring with a cross-shaped insert golden, and the remaining components of the lamp black.
We make the final assembly of the lamp, insert a wire into the stand pipe and put its socket on a plastic pipe buried in the ground.We remove the head of the lamp, connect the wires to the socket, which we secure to the crosspiece using superglue.
We screw the LED light bulb into the socket, return the lamp head to its place and apply voltage. The lamp and everything around is illuminated with a pleasant soft light, giving a unique charm to everything that appears in the light zone.
