How to preserve any onion for 2 years
As you know, onions in warm weather begin to germinate intensively, lose their hardness, can become moldy and become unsuitable for food use. But every housewife is able to easily preserve this very healthy and rich in nutrients natural product for several years without spoilage or loss of taste.
Preparation for long-term storage of onions
To do this, we peel the red or white onion and remove the root stems, cut it into large slices, place them in the middle of the chopper container, and sprinkle with half a teaspoon of rock or sea salt, which is approximately 5 grams.
Fill the chopper container to the top with onion pieces and also sprinkle with 5 grams of salt.
We close the chopper container with a lid and turn on the device to turn onion slices into a homogeneous puree. Then place the resulting mass on a baking sheet covered with greaseproof paper and spread it evenly with a food spatula over the entire surface of the baking sheet in a thin layer.
In this way we process the entire mass of onions and, if there is a lot of it, then distribute the prepared mass over several baking sheets.Dry the resulting onion mass in the sun for 2 days.
To speed up and improve the drying process, break the still slightly damp onion “cake” into pieces. By the way, this product can also be dried in the oven at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. But after any type of drying, there should be no moisture left in the product, otherwise it will become moldy and become unfit for consumption.
Place the dried onion pieces back into the grinder and turn them into a fine powder, which we then fill the glass jars to the top with and securely close with iron lids.
Store glass jars with onion powder in a cool place with normal humidity and out of direct sunlight. Rest assured: nothing will happen to your product for at least 2 years.
