How to Upgrade a Trimmer to a Push Lawn Mower
When working, a swinging lawn mower has to be suspended almost all the time, which leads to rapid fatigue of almost all the muscles of the body and you have to rest more often, i.e., work becomes unproductive. By turning the swinging tool into a pushing tool, we no longer hold the mower suspended, but move it along the ground, which is much easier than swinging a heavy tool above the ground. Any adult with basic skills in handling metal and simple hand tools can cope with this work.
Will need
Materials:
- metal strip;
- a metal sheet;
- lawn mower gear housing;
- ball head screws;
- spray paint;
- knife attachment points;
- rotating knife;
- rod with a drive shaft inside;
- lawn mower drive.
Tools: welding machine, drill, hand screwdriver, open-end wrench.
The process of converting a oscillating lawn mower into a pushing one
We bend the ends of two metal strips of equal length to the top at the same angle, which we tighten with the help of welding with a second strip.The lower sections will serve as runners, and the upper sections will serve as part of the power frame.
In the center of a rectangular metal sheet using a hole saw drill a hole with a diameter of 40 mm. We insert the lawn mower gear housing into it and mark the locations of the three mounting holes and drill them.
We secure the gearbox housing to the sheet with three hemispherical head screws. We install the sheet with the gearbox on the previously prepared slide, cut it to size and weld them among themselves.
We paint the upper part of the structure from an aerosol can. Then, after the paint has dried, we turn it over and securely fasten a knife made of durable steel and sharpened on two opposite sides to the output shaft of the gearbox.
We install a rod with a drive shaft inside at the entrance to the gearbox, the end of which should engage with the drive gear of the gearbox. We tighten the standard fasteners. We put the drive of the lawn mower on ourselves with the help of straps, and our lawn mower turned from a swinging one to a pushing one.
Control testing clearly showed that the modification did not worsen the operational capabilities of the tool, but, on the contrary, made them better. Working with such a lawn mower, you will be less tired, and your work will become more productive.
