How to bend the neck of a glass bottle
Everyone has glass containers in their household; it’s a shame to throw them away, but you don’t want to reuse them because of their unpresentable appearance. There is an easy way to give the bottle an original appearance.
What to prepare
The set of tools is minimal: pliers, aluminum or soft iron wire, a gas burner and any glass bottle.
To prevent burns on your hands, you must have mittens.
Work process
Take a piece of wire with a diameter of 0.5–1 mm, approximately 20–25 cm long, and bend the end at a distance of 1/3 of the total length. Do not squeeze too hard; there should be a loop at the bend. Use pliers to turn the loop several times. This is required to fix its dimensions and prevent spontaneous further tightening.
Place the loop on the neck of the bottle and twist the loose ends around the neck several times. Use pliers to tighten the twist. There is no need to tighten it too much - during further work the neck may be damaged. The purpose of tightening is to eliminate the possibility of the ligament slipping.
Thread the remaining long end of the wire into the loop, reduce its size so that the length of the new jumper is equal to the length of the loop.Secure the structure with the short end. As a result, the long end should be located in the center of the diameter of the bottle.
Make a handle from the remaining wire, wrap the protruding end tightly around the loops. The connection must be reliable; great efforts must be made when pulling out the glass.
Light the gas burner and begin to heat the neck in the area where you intend to pull.
Warm it carefully, do not rush, constantly rotate the bottle, hold it hot in your hands - place it on the table. If you do not follow this rule, the glass will definitely crack due to the large difference in thermal expansion.
Once the glass is heated to red along the entire circumference of the diameter, begin to pull it out at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
If this requires great effort, then repeat the heating, only now achieve a higher temperature. There is no need to rush, the glass should become pliable.
After bending, reheat the neck along its entire length to minimize internal stresses in the glass.
Conclusion
After a little practice, you can not only bend the neck at different angles, but also tighten it with a screw, make it long and thin, etc. Such dishes can later be used for various drinks and as an exclusive flower vase.
