How to make a real bow from old skis
Many boys dreamed of a real bow, just like the Indians. Today I will show you how to make this dream come true using affordable materials.
To make a bow we will need:
- A pair of unnecessary skis.
- Plywood (I used 15mm thick).
- Nylon thread.
Making onions
We take skis, of course, unnecessary ones, and cut off a piece of 65 centimeters from each ski.
Using a knife and sandpaper, we clean the skis from the remnants of factory paint and give them an aesthetic appearance.
After this, you need to mark the holes for attaching the skis to the handle. Find the middle of the workpiece and draw a line. On this line, retreating 3 centimeters, we make three holes and countersink them.
Next, using a file and sandpaper, we make cuts on the edges of the skis, into which the bowstring will fall.
This concludes the work with the bow's shoulders; we move on to making the handle. I drew a full scale handle on graph paper and cut it out.
This form seemed to me the most convenient. After that, I transferred the drawing onto plywood (45 mm thick), cut out three identical blanks, glued them together, and processed them with a rasp.
For beauty, I covered it with stain and sanded it. You need to make a shelf on the handle on which the arrow will rest.
After all the cosmetic work, you can start assembling the bow. We attach the arms to the handle and secure them with self-tapping screws in their original place, tighten the bowstring (you can use a nylon rope) and our bow is ready for shooting!
