How to fix a leaking valve tap without replacing it
Stopcocks tend to leak from the stem. This can usually be fixed without replacing them. Moreover, the repaired faucet then works without problems for at least several more years.
What you will need:
- Adjustable wrench;
- plumbing thread for sealing.
Valve tap leak repair process
Often the problem with a valve valve leaking is solved by tightening the nut holding its stem. This can be done without blocking the pipe, directly under pressure.
Method 1. The nut is tightened with an adjustable wrench in a clockwise direction. But it is important not to overdo it with tension, so as not to break the thread and break the tap.
Method 2. If this does not help, then you will still have to turn off the water and then tighten the nut.
After this, you need to seal the threads and screw the nut back on. If the latter does not interfere, then the seal is made with fume tape. A few turns are enough. In this case, as in the example, this is inconvenient, so the thread can be sealed by pushing a piece of thread inside to seal it.
After tightening the nut there will be no more leaks.
