How to make rims for a hiller from rims
If your household has a mini-tractor or walk-behind tractor, it needs attachments and accessories, for example, a disc hiller for working in the garden or vegetable garden. You can make the working parts of a hiller from old car rims and metal scraps without much expense. Almost any adult can cope with such work and does not require special knowledge or skills.
Will need
Materials and tools:
- old car wheels from Gazelle;
- used spring from Gazelle;
- a piece of round pipe;
- rolling bearings;
- old shaft or axle;
- welding machine;
- Bulgarian.
The process of making hiller discs from old car rims
We draw a circle along the outer side of the disks, ensuring the outer diameter of the future hiller disks is within 31-32 cm. After trimming according to the markings, we get circles with elements bent to one side, reminiscent of dovetails, which will additionally cultivate the soil.

The circles obtained in this form should not be used in the garden or as discs in the garden, since the sharp corners of the dovetails will cut the potato tubers. We grind them down, and at the same time we clean the disc blanks from various deposits and rust and grind them.
We cut one of the sheets of unusable springs from the Gazelle into 4 identical plates. Using two plates, we weld the central holes of the circles from the outside and inside, placing them symmetrically relative to the holes being welded.
We cut a used shaft or axle in half and measure such a distance from the threaded ends that there is at least 5 cm between the cut line and the bearings. We weld the cut ends to the rest of the halves at an angle of 110 degrees.
To prevent the bearings from moving inward along their axes, we weld stops in the form of rings cut from a round pipe of suitable diameter.
From another pipe of the corresponding diameter we cut 2 rings of the same width.
After drawing 3 diameters, we find the center of the welded plates and make holes in them slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the rings, which we weld coaxially to the holes in the plates.
We insert the axles of the racks into the rings. Moreover, the outer bearing will rest against the protrusions of the holes in the plates and will not allow the racks to move. We secure the axle with bearings on the outside with nuts. The hiller discs are completely ready for installation.
