We sew coasters for hot food for Valentine's Day
Do you want to make something that is not only beautiful, but also useful? present for the most romantic holiday, which will be relevant not only on February 14, but throughout the year? Then prepare thick cotton fabric, for example, two-thread, scraps of red cotton with different patterns (floral, checkered, striped, polka dots, etc.), wooden buttons in the shape of hearts with different prints, as well as a cotton ribbon with the inscription “Hand made” ", padding polyester, threads, scissors and start sewing themed coasters.
Before starting work, it is recommended to wash, dry and iron the double thread. Cut two 15 cm squares from this fabric.
From red cotton, in this case floral, cut out a heart and place it on one of the two-thread base pieces. To make the applique even, you can spray the fabric from the inside with fabric adhesive spray and press it lightly with a warm iron.
If there is no spray, the applique can be glued to a tailor’s adhesive mesh - a “spider web”. Set the zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine, set the stitch height to 4 mm and width to 2 mm. Place a seam around the perimeter of the heart.
Bring the threads to the wrong side, secure with a knot and use a needle to place under the applique. Sew a ribbon with the inscription “Hand made” to the second part of the stand.
Cut a square with a side of 15 cm from the padding polyester. Iron the padding polyester through a damp cloth to remove looseness. If you don’t have padding polyester, you can use thick adhesive fabric or beading. Fold the two-thread pieces with the appliqués facing each other. Lay the padding polyester on top and pin the structure together with tailor's pins or lay a basting seam.
Along the perimeter of the stand, lay a straight stitch 3-4 mm wide, leaving a hole on one side for turning inside out.
Along the edge of the stand, trim off the excess padding and cut off the corners.
Turn and iron the stand. Fold the edges of the opening inward to turn it inside out.
To secure the parts, lay a decorative “cardiogram” stitch around the entire perimeter of the stand.
Decorate one of the corners of the stand with a wooden button in the shape of a heart.
Make 3 more of these coasters, but with appliqués from other fabrics.
Sew loops on them for hanging.
This is how, spending a minimum of time and fabric, you can create a cute and practical gift for Valentine's Day.
