How to Make an Inexpensive, Very Simple Bench Bench Vise

Full-fledged good bench vices are expensive, and cheap ones are extremely unreliable. If your budget is limited and you don’t want to buy a useless vice, then you can weld them from scrap metal. This requires a minimum of materials and time.

Basic materials:

  • Sheet steel 6 mm;
  • corner 40x40 mm;
  • stud with persistent thread;
  • nut for stud;
  • the tube is slightly larger in diameter than the stud.

Vise manufacturing process

It is necessary to cut 2 blanks of 100x50 mm from thick sheet steel.

You also need to prepare a 100x300 mm plate. From a 40x40 mm corner, you need to cut 4 pieces 40 mm long.

On the edge of the existing stud with a trapezoidal thread, from the side where it begins, it is necessary to make a groove in a circle in the form of a groove. You also need to grind off the adjacent threads.

On the reverse side, the pin is drilled across.

A 100x50 mm plate is welded to the edge of the 100x300 mm workpiece. This will be the vise frame.

To the second part 100x50 mm, you need to weld a ring from a tube drilled into the center into the center.

A small nut and bolt are welded onto its hole, and the latter should retain the ability to rotate. Now you can insert the machined edge of the pin into the ring and tighten it with a bolt so that it does not come back out.

A nut should be screwed onto the stud, which is then welded to the vise frame.

Next, the previously sawn legs from the corner are welded to the base.

A rod is inserted into the drilled edge of the pin to be able to rotate it.

Next you need to drill the legs.

Now all the parts can be painted.

The bed is screwed to the workplace.

Then a pin is screwed into the nut, and a movable jaw is installed on its edge. To prevent it from flying off, it needs to be tightened with a bolt. Its edge will fall into the groove, so the sponge will not be removed, but the pin will be able to rotate.
