How to assemble a simple grinder from bicycle hubs

There is no more convenient machine for grinding and sharpening than a belt grinder. They can bring planes to perfection. Such machines are not the cheapest, so not everyone has them in their workshop. If you are not ready to buy a grinder, then make one yourself from plywood and bicycle hubs.

Basic materials:

Front and rear bicycle hub;
plastic pipe 40 mm;
40 mm couplings for sewer pipes – 2 pcs.;
plywood;
bicycle camera;
electric motor with drive.

The process of making a grinder from bicycle hubs with your own hands

Using a core drill, you need to drill out a plug from a board or block and drive it tightly into the hub of the rear bicycle wheel.

The front bushing together with the axle must be pressed into the coupling for plastic pipes. After this, the edges of the coupling are trimmed in the center of the protrusions for the rubber bands.

It is necessary to knock off the side cups from the rear bushing, leaving only the body.

Press a heated plastic pipe onto it.

This is necessary to insert it into the second coupling. The edges of the latter are cut in the same way as on the first.A section of a bicycle tube is stretched over both parts from above.

The machine body is made from plywood. First you need to cut out 3 parts for the box, measuring 12x30 cm. They need to be connected, and a fourth high wall 30 cm wide must be screwed to them. Its height is selected depending on the length of the sanding belt used.

2 pieces of 12x12 cm are cut out of plywood. A cut is made in them to clamp the axle of the front bicycle hub.

A roller made from a rear bushing needs to be placed on the shaft of an existing electric motor with a drive. The engine is then installed in the box.

The previously made fastenings for the front hub axle are screwed onto the box post, in which it is clamped. Then a sanding belt is stretched between the rollers. Its tension is done according to the same principle as the chains on a bicycle.

A tabletop with a cutout for the ribbon is screwed onto the box. A persistent platform, also made of plywood, is installed on it behind the sandpaper. The machine should be painted before use.
