Unusual solutions with PP pipes. 5 useful lifehacks for plumbers
When working with polypropylene pipes, you can use many tricks. We offer a selection of ingenious solutions that allow you to make good use of even the shortest piece of pipe that would otherwise have to be thrown away. All of them are simple and can be easily repeated at home.
1. Restoration of the American
The collapsible connection for American type polypropylene pipes is disposable. If you had to cut it off, you can't solder it back. But the half with the nut can be restored.
To do this, a plug is soldered to the end of the pipe.
Then the plug is cut off so that the side remains.
Now you can put on the American nut, and the half is restored. It can be connected to the mating part through a soft gasket.
2. Cross movable connection of PP pipes
For this connection you need 2 pieces of pipe 100 mm long. They remove part of the wall in the longitudinal direction to 40% of the circumference. When cutting, the edges are trimmed with a knife at an acute angle.
Next, twist the halves in the center with a self-tapping screw and bend its edge.
This cross works like a latch to connect two intersecting pipes. And from any angle.
3. Pipe hanger
To make a hanger for a pipe, you need to cut a ring 10-15 mm wide from a pipe of the same diameter. It is cut lengthwise.
Then one end of it is heated and pulled back. After this, the device can be snapped onto the pipe, creating a hook for hanging something.
4. Pipe bending without creasing
If necessary, you can turn the polypropylene pipe without an elbow, but by bending it. To avoid creases, a flexible hose from a shower head is placed in it.
The pipe is heated by a burner, and while it is hot, it bends.
Then we take out the hose and mount it where needed.
5. Threaded pipe connection
Polypropylene pipes can be connected by twisting if they are threaded. This is possible if one of them has a larger diameter. The method is suitable for joining pipes of 20 and 25 mm, or 25 and 32 mm.
To do this, screw a nut heated with a torch onto the smaller tube.
The large pipe is screwed into any hot metal element with an internal thread of the same size.
After this they will be able to curl.
This connection option is suitable in cases where collapsible frames are made from pipes, but not for water supply.
